Can People Push Your Buttons?

Throughout this past Presidential Election I have closely monitored the attitude of President-Elect Barak Obama.
He has faced an on slaught of opposition. At one point he was accused of embracing the Muslim faith. He was under much ridicule during the remarks by his “then” Pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright. He was then accused of embracing the arms of terrorism, not being an American, not having enough experience to become President and of course the racism card has come into play through out the campaign. Talk about someone pushing your buttons?
Watching the President-Elect through all this and more, I have noticed one thing. His temperament has remained the same. He has been even tempered and not pulled into the drama whatever it be. His ability to stick to the issues and the root of all matters has been amazing. I think that so many have been just waiting to see him slip just one time and go OFF but he hasn’t.
I then look at my own life and think how in my past someone has pushed just one too many of my buttons and I allowed myself to express my feelings in ways for which I had to later repent. Maybe that’s not you. I’m just being honest. What a lesson to be learned. Especially for those of us in leadership positions.
Who knows how to push that one button in your life to make you go off on the deep end. Or how do you handle ridicule, lies and misrepresentation? Should we deal with it or sweep it under the rug?
I believe we should deal with what needs to be dealt with in a godly manner and that which doesn’t left in God’s hands. I have also found that my buttons are less often pushed when I’m prayed up for the day. Phillipians 4:5 says Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus. When I have his mind, I speak his mind. When I don’t have his mind…well you know what happens.
So on that note, let me ask you again, can people push your buttons?
Tell me about it. In the meantime I pray that you will too develop and welcome the mind of Christ.
Your Friend,
Sonya Hamm

Sonya,
You nailed it! Phil. 2:5 is my life verse, on which I meditate often. I did not vote for Obama, but he will be my President. I appreciate what you said about his temperament. As you know, I vote for content and not color. I disagree with Mr. Obama on many issues, but the election is over and settled. God directs our future and puts into place the men and women He desires.
(My candidate, Alan Keyes, didn’t make it past the primaries.)
I let lots of things about the campaigns push my buttons. God convicted me of putting my mind on campaign stuff and not on Him. As a teacher, I must stayed prayed up because students really like to push my buttons. God says the buttons are His. He can have them because I cannot handle anything without Him.
I appreciate your Godly insights, and look forward to seeing God’s work through you at this site!
May God continue to bless you as you have blessed us!

Yes, people can push my buttons; on the highway, in the classroom, and when I think people are looking down on me or my family. But I have learned to constantly ask myself WWJD and consider the fact that sometimes people are just having a bad day. I try not to take things too personally. I marvel at people like Obama who face ridicule constantly and still seem to keep their composure.

Of course our buttons can be pushed. I think when this happens it is a test of our faith. Sometimes we have to be slow to speak. As christians we are to be a light to the world. We are salt and can’t lose our savor. We have to learn to set the example. Barack Obama is a true testament of this. He may have had words to say, but it wasn’t done openly. We have to learn how to use tact. Life and death lies in the power of our tongue, therefore we have to be extremely cautious. We never know who’s watching on earth, we always know that GOD sees all and knows all so we can’t hide from him. We all can learn a thing or two from our President. He’s the example of what it is to be elite, one to walk uprightly, one who is letting their light shine. He’s leading by example, will we follow? I guess that question must arise in us, “What would Jesus do?”

How can christians back a man that is pro abortion and pro gay rights and call him someone that walks upright and moral. His buttons probably didnt get pushed because they were true. Dont be blinded by worldly views and judge someone by the color of thier skin, but by the content of thier character. A true christian cannot stand with someone that stands for murder and perversion. These things cannot be compromised.
I hope you listened.
