We are encouraged to meditate on the word of God and to be transformed by the renewing of our mind (Romans 12:2). As you meditate on God’s word a better understanding is revealed. Each week we will post a bible scripture for meditation. Please feel free to post your comments on what that word means to you as we pontificate on God’s Word!
Meditation For This Week December 29, 2008
Philipians 2:5
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
Who being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men.

Can People Push Your Buttons?

Throughout this past Presidential Election I have closely monitored the attitude of President-Elect Barak Obama.
He has faced an on slaught of opposition. At one point he was accused of embracing the Muslim faith. He was under much ridicule during the remarks by his “then” Pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright. He was then accused of embracing the arms of terrorism, not being an American, not having enough experience to become President and of course the racism card has come into play through out the campaign. Talk about someone pushing your buttons?
Watching the President-Elect through all this and more, I have noticed one thing. His temperament has remained the same. He has been even tempered and not pulled into the drama whatever it be. His ability to stick to the issues and the root of all matters has been amazing. I think that so many have been just waiting to see him slip just one time and go OFF but he hasn’t.
I then look at my own life and think how in my past someone has pushed just one too many of my buttons and I allowed myself to express my feelings in ways for which I had to later repent. Maybe that’s not you. I’m just being honest. What a lesson to be learned. Especially for those of us in leadership positions.
Who knows how to push that one button in your life to make you go off on the deep end. Or how do you handle ridicule, lies and misrepresentation? Should we deal with it or sweep it under the rug?
I believe we should deal with what needs to be dealt with in a godly manner and that which doesn’t left in God’s hands. I have also found that my buttons are less often pushed when I’m prayed up for the day. Phillipians 4:5 says Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus. When I have his mind, I speak his mind. When I don’t have his mind…well you know what happens.
So on that note, let me ask you again, can people push your buttons?
Tell me about it. In the meantime I pray that you will too develop and welcome the mind of Christ.
Your Friend,
Sonya Hamm
